MCSM Response Letter Defending Friends Of The NRA
Dear members of Bethesda Chevy Chase Rescue Squad;
I am a life long resident of Montgomery County. I was born and raised
in Bethesda. Many times the BCC rescue squad came to the aid of
myself and my friends. However, this time you have not acted in our
best interest.
Specifically, I understand that you have cancelled the banquet hall
event for the Friends of the NRA to be held in late February. The NRA
Foundation, hosting the banquet, is a section 501(c)(3) charitable
organization dedicated to safety education. I was looking forward to
attending the event, like I have for the past several years. I was
looking forward to supplying safety related information and donating
firearm locks as I have done in the past. That will be stopped now if
short sighted individuals have their way.
The bigoted claims of Montgomery County, by its attorneys, will stop
the safety education fund raising and my personal safety education
activities at this event. Do they not understand the "educational
events" are specifically exempted from the 100 yard restriction they
cite in opposing this event? Do they presume the County and its
elected officials are the only people who can "grant" safety to
residents? Where do the volunteers, you and I, fit in? We must act
to ensure safety and must not be stopped by short sighted individuals
with inordinate power to control the actions of the individual.
I support BCC Rescue Squad. I support Friends of the NRA. I know
where my priority lies in this case. I will let you know where the
rescheduled event will be held so your members can attend.
Sincerely,
Robert Culver, MCSM Secretary
Silver Spring and Bethesda, Maryland
