United Airline Pilot's Resolution [11-15-01]

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
November 8, 2001
Las Vegas, Nevada Dr. Ignatius Piazza
Front Sight Firearms Training Institute

Front Sight has run television commercials in Washington DC to promote arming pilots. We have talked on numerous radio and television shows. We have sent numerous press releases to the National Wire Service and E-mail lists. We have coordinated with pilots and pilot unions. All of this effort has resulted in both the House and Senate passing their respective versions of the Aviation Security Act with provisions to arm pilots.

Lobbyist for Front Sight Founder's Society now report from Washington DC that the Conference on Aviation Security is currently underway to finalize the combined language of Senate bill S1447 and House bill H3150. Both have provisions to arm commercial pilots to defend the cockpit against terrorist attack.

We are very close to making Front Sight's "Arm Our Pilots" campaign a reality. The problem is the House and Senate versions differ in that one bill gives arming pilots authority to the air carrier and the other gives authority to the government. Front Sight is pushing for a combined "Shall Issue" language that places the option of carrying a gun solely in the pilot's control once the pilot has received training to defend the cockpit against terrorist attack.

WE ARE VERY CLOSE TO MAKING THIS HAPPEN! The bipartisan committee on Aviation Security is meeting NOW to formulate the final language that will be presented to President Bush for signature into law.

WE MUST ACT IMMEDIATELY TO PUSH FOR A SHALL ISSUE LANGUAGE. DO NOT HESITATE. ACT TODAY.

Here's what needs to be done:

1. Phone each committee member below.
2. Fax the following letter to each of the committee members listed below.
3. E-mail the letter to each committee member below.

Dear (Insert Name)

I strongly urge you to give pilots and co-pilots the option of voluntarily carrying a handgun to defend the cockpit against terrorist attack.

After receiving proper training from one of the fine private firearms training facilities in this country, a pilot can control the commercial aircraft while the co-pilot defends the cockpit door against invasion. I trust a pilot with my life every time I board a plane. I also trust them with a gun. Give the pilot and co-pilot the ability to save my life and all the lives of their passengers should a terrorist ever attempt to take over the controls of the aircraft.

Get the firearms training program implemented IMMEDIATELY for those pilots and co-pilots that volunteer to carry a gun. I urge you to use all your available resources as soon as possible, including the resources of the private firearms training institutes.

Air passenger safety and the financial survival of the commercial airlines industry require swift and deliberate action on your part.

Do not allow pilots, the airlines, air passengers, or Americans to ever be helpless victims again. Arm and train our pilots!

God Bless you.
God Bless America.

Sincerely,
(Insert your name and address)
